Booths at Capacity for Interactive Health and Wellness Expo on October 24
Gainesville, GA – October 22, 2007: Over 70 organizations have registered as exhibitors for HealthSmart, an Interactive Health and Wellness Expo, on Wednesday, October 24 at the Georgia Mountains Center.
Schedule of Events
9:00 a.m. – Breakfast with speaker Dominique Wilkins (Reservations Required)
10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. – Interactive Health and Wellness EXPO (Free and Open to the Public)
11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Healthy Food Samples from Local Restaurants
4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. – VIP Wine & Cheese Reception (Chamber Members, EXPO Exhibitors and Special Guests)
The Greater Hall Chamber’s HealthSmart program kicks off with a breakfast seminar at 9:00 a.m. featuring National Basketball Association Hall of Famer and former Atlanta Hawks player, Dominique Wilkins, as guest speaker. Dominique will present “Nique and Newt’s Full-Court Press on Diabetes,” a program designed to increase awareness, detection and prevention of diabetes.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, if current health trends continue unchecked, one of every three children born in 2000 will develop diabetes. Diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease currently account for 75 % of healthcare costs. In fact, diabetes is now the number one cause of new adult blindness.
The EXPO, featuring interactive booths, will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and provide services that range from glucose testing to body fat analysis. Exhibitors will be arranged by area of focus – Seniors, Children, Women, Men, Company Wellness. Services offered during the EXPO include:

“The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce’s HealthSmart Interactive Health and Wellness Expo is a model for communities on how citizens can take control of their health by seeking and implementing proactive healthcare solutions,” said Chamber Healthcare Committee member, Jack Chapman, M.D. of Gainesville Eye Associates and president-elect of the Medical Association of Georgia.
“HealthSmart will empower Gainesville-Hall County citizens with the latest information on healthy dietary and lifestyle choices and the best practices to prevent future health problems. Health care professionals from all facets of the industry will be on hand to provide a variety of screenings and services. Prevention and early detection save lives and trips to the hospital. Informing, educating and updating citizens as well as providing screenings and services are the primary purposes of HealthSmart,” stated Chapman.
There will be no charge for admission to the EXPO or seminars, and the public is invited to attend. Employers are urged to send employees to this event.
