Gainesville, GA – March 5, 2008: Dozens of local companies and 1250 runners and walkers have registered to participate in the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce’s Get Fit Stay Fit Corporate Challenge 5K Run-Walk sponsored by Consumers Life on Thursday, March 20 at Riverside Military Academy.
Congressman Nathan Deal is Honorary Chairman of the first-time event which seeks to promote company wellness programs and community health awareness. Congressman Deal is past chairman and current Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Health where he oversees legislation, hearings and markups for all legislative areas over many critical issues affecting America’s public and private health sectors.
“Where the HealthSmart Interactive Health and Wellness Expo provided services, screenings and information, we can’t forget the corporate sector of Hall County,” said Jullie King, The Longstreet Clinic. “As we strive to become the healthiest community in Georgia, Get Fit Stay Fit seeks to highlight the many health benefits, encourage an employee exercise program and increase company morale and sense of teamwork.” King is a member of the Get Fit Stay Fit planning committee.
Registration for the event has been a tremendous success, in part to an incentive provided by the new Georgia Mountains YMCA. All early registered runners and walkers received an eight-week complimentary membership to the YMCA. Registration to the event is now closed.
Get Fit Stay Fit begins with Arrival/Registration at 5:00 p.m. at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville. A special Runners Cup will be awarded to the Fastest Corporate Team, to the Fastest CEO and the company with the Best Team Spirit. These cups will travel each year to the winning companies. There will also be an incentive for all employees to participate whether by running in the 5K or supporting their team. Proceeds from the event will benefit youth health and recreational programs in Gainesville-Hall County.
Packet pick-up for Team Captains and individuals is Monday, March 17 and Tuesday March 18 from 10 am-2:00 pm at the Chamber of Commerce. Registration is closed, and there will be NO Race Day Registration.
A photographer will be available for team photos starting at 4:00 pm. The Lanier Running Club is coordinating the 5K with runners beginning at 6:00 p.m. and walkers at 6:30 p.m. T-Shirts will be distributed at the end of the event to all participants.
