CHAMBER BUSINESS AFTER HOURS
July 26 at the The Times
Gainesville, GA-07/24/07: The Times will sponsor Business After Hours on Thursday, July 26 at the newspaper’s office on Green Street from 5:15 – 7:15 p.m. Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce members and guests will gather to enjoy networking opportunities, fun, fellowship and great food. Cost is $5 for Greater Hall Chamber Members and $10 for guests. All money collected goes towards a cash prize! Great door prizes will be given away as well.
ABOUT THE TIMES
Founded by Charles & Lessie Smithgall, The Gainesville Daily Times, as it was originally named, was first published on January 26, 1947. The paper was eight pages with a circulation of 4,000 and published Sunday through Friday. The name was soon shortened to The Daily Times and in 1952 moved to the new Press-Radio Center on Spring Street. Even the fire in October, 1952 of the composing room didn’t stop the presses. As the paper grew, so did the need for more space and in 1970 the publication moved to its current location on Green Street. By 1972, the paper became known as The Times. As computer technology became the way of the future, VDTs were introduced to the newsroom by 1977. In 1981, The Times was purchased by Gannett Co., Inc. and in 1982 began printing USA Today for the region. A Saturday edition was added in 1988 making The Times a true daily newspaper. In 2004, The Times was acquired by Morris Multimedia Inc., a Georgia-based company that is one of the largest privately held media organizations in the United States.
