Award Winning Journalist Wes Sarginson to Speak at Farm City Breakfast

Gainesville, GA – October 5, 2008: Greater Hall Chamber Vice Chairman of Community Development Dixie Truelove of Truelove Dairy announces Farm City Week Breakfast on Thursday, November 13 at 7:30 a.m. at the East Hall Community Center. The event, coordinated by the Hall County Extension Service and Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, will feature Guest Speaker Wes Sarginson, a well-known Atlanta broadcaster. A complimentary breakfast will be served. Reservations are required.

For many years, the Hall County Extension Service and the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce have coordinated the Farm City Week Breakfast in observance of National Farm City Week, the third week in November each year. During National Farm City Week, local farmers, along with those working in agriculture and agribusiness, are honored to encourage the building of strong relationships between our rural and urban community and our city businesses and leaders. We recognize these hard-working individuals and companies who help spur our economic prosperity and feed our country, state, country and the world.

“The Greater Hall Chamber certainly recognizes the importance of our farm and agribusiness community,” said Kit Dunlap, President/CEO of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce. “The Farm City Breakfast has become a tradition and a way to recognize the importance of farming to Hall County.”

Wes Sarginson, a well-known Atlanta broadcaster, joined the 11Alive News Team in August of 1997 and served as co-anchor of 11Alive News at 6 & 11 p.m. each weekday. In January 2006, he gave up the 11 pm news and co-anchored the 6 pm show only until his retirement in 2007.

An award-winning journalist, Wes’ broadcast career spans more than 41 years. He began in television in the 1960’s at WKAB-TV in Montgomery, AL. Following that, he worked at WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh, KYW-TV in Philadelphia, Westinghouse Broadcasting and Cable, Inc., and spent six years as an anchor at WSB-TV here in Atlanta. Prior to joining 11Alive News, Wes spent nine years as primary anchor for WFLA-TV in Tampa, FL.

His signature feature at WXIA, Wes Side Story, is something he is especially proud of. On Wes Side Story, he highlights people in situations many may see as “impossible”. Stories of courage, perseverance, and the human spirit comprise the majority of Wes Side Stories. Wes doesn’t have to look far for story ideas. According to him, “the stories find you.”

Throughout the years, Wes has received numerous professional awards and honors including eight Emmy awards, five awards from the United Press International and seven from the Associated Press.

Aside from broadcasting, Wes has written a book called Fast Eddie Watkins, published in 1982. He also served in the United States Air Force as 1st Lieutenant.
