HEALTHSMART KICKOFF BREAKFAST
Wednesday, October 9
7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Gainesville Civic Center

Members of the Hall County “Think About It” Coalition will speak about the prescription drug abuse epidemic at the HealthSmart Kickoff Breakfast. A program of the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG) Foundation, this statewide initiative focuses on implementing a state-wide drug monitoring system, encouraging safe drug disposal, and educating the public and professionals about the dangers of and prevention of prescription drug abuse. Statewide, statistics are staggering. Prescription drug abuse is advancing at an alarming rate, and more people in Georgia die from prescription drug overdoses from abusive reasons than in automobile accidents.

To address this medical epidemic (officially designated an epidemic by the CDC in 2011), the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG) Foundation has launched a significant statewide initiative to focus on drug monitoring, education and safe drug disposal. The Think About It Campaign in Hall County is spearheaded by P. Tennent Slack, MD, Northeast Georgia Physicians Group Interventional Pain Medicine; Jack Chapman, MD, Gainesville Eye Associates and Past President of MAG; and Dallas Gay, a MAG Foundation volunteer. www.rxdrugabuse.org
