Schreiber Foods, a Wisconsin-based maker of processed and natural cheese, has launched a major expansion of its 93,000-square-foot Hall County plant at 2255 White Sulphur Road. When completed in May, the additional 53,000-square-foot distribution center would create about 100 new jobs for area residents, said Deborah Van Dyk, company vice president for industry and regulatory affairs.
“This expansion certainly reflects our commitment to the Hall County community,” Dyk said when she unveiled expansion plans at the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors meeting.
In May 2002, Schreiber acquired Deep South Products Inc, a producer of cheese and margarine that has operated in Hall since 1978. The new company was renamed Schreiber Foods Gainesville, making it the firm’s first production plant in the Southeast. The local plant produces shredded, chunk and sliced cheeses and pimento spread. Since the acquisition, Schreiber has increased manufacturing capacity and increased employee head count by 115 percent.
“We’ve had a longtime relationship with Deep South and Schreiber’s decision to expand is an indication of an existing industry’s continuing commitment to the community,” said William Bagwell, chamber vice president of economic development.
Schreiber has more than 4,600 employees at more than 20 locations around the world. When you buy store-brand cheese at your favorite grocer or on your favorite fast-food sandwich, you’re likely eating Schreiber cheese.
