Gainesville, GA – December 4, 2009: Dr. George Danns, a member of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Leadership Hall County class and Gainesville State College professor, recently challenged his students in an Introduction to Social Problems class to collect toys for the needy as a class project. The toys will be donated to the local Toys for Tots program.

“My class spearheaded a toy drive on campus which yielded in excess of 500 toys for boys and girls of all ages,” said Dr. Danns. “I am delighted that the initiative by this class has made such a significant contribution to a worthy cause that would bring cheer to vulnerable kids and their families at Christmas. The students were very appreciative that Greater Hall Chamber representatives and several colleagues from Leadership Hall County took the time to recognize their effort.”

The Greater Hall Chamber’s Leadership Hall County group, United Way of Hall County and the U.S. Marine Corps League are partnering to collect toys for needy children in our community. The Toys for Tots goal is to collect and distribute 6,000 toys. Over 150 donation boxes are located throughout the community (including the Chamber and United Way offices) and will be available for toy drop off through December 14.

Donated toys should be new, unwrapped and for children ages infant to 15 years. Toys from the drive will be distributed to Friends of Recovery, Gateway Domestic Violence Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County, Hall County Foster Kids, and The Salvation Army. Visit United Way’s website, unitedwayhallcounty.org, for more information on the toy drive, specific drop locations and suggested toys to purchase.
