Gainesville, GA – August 3, 2009: The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Healthcare and Government Affairs/Issues Committees will host a Healthcare Reform Meeting featuring Congressman Nathan Deal and Congressman Phil Gingrey, MD, on Wednesday, August 12 from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Walters Auditorium in Downtown Gainesville. Open to the public. No charge. Reservations required.
Come get the real story on what’s happening in Washington from Congressman Phil Gingrey, M.D. (R-11th District Ga) and Congressman Nathan Deal (R-9th District Ga)!
About Congressman Phil Gingrey: Congressman Phil Gingrey was born and raised in Augusta. He graduated from Georgia Tech and the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Gingrey founded an OB-GYN practice in Marietta. For 26 years, Gingrey built a successful practice and delivered more than 5,200 babies. In 1998, he decided to run for state Senate. Gingrey won and was re-elected in 2000 with 74 percent of the vote. In 2002, he was elected U.S. Congressman for Georgia’s 11th District. In the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Gingrey currently serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee, where he will use his background as a physician to shape our nation’s healthcare policy. During his previous terms in Congress, Gingrey has also served on the Armed Services Committee, the Rules Committee, the Committee on Education and the Workforce, and the Science and Technology Committee.
About Congressman Nathan Deal: Waging a statewide campaign for governor is a major task, but Nathan Deal has done this while being actively engaged in the debate on issues like water, energy and healthcare in Washington. As the Republican leader on the Health Subcommittee, Nathan Deal has been standing up against the Democrat plan for a government-run healthcare system. Deal offered an amendment that would have prevented the federal government from dictating what benefits individual states must offer, which is required under the Democrat bill. While the amendment was lost in a party line vote, Deal has sent the message to the Democrat leaders that he and his fellow Republicans will not sit by and allow the dismantling of our private healthcare system. He has joined Congressman Phil Gingrey, MD, in supporting an amendment that would prohibit the government from interfering with the doctor-patient relationship, which has been the most personal and private of matters.
