WHY Heart disease and stroke, the nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers, claim more than 930,000 American lives a year. In Hall County, CVD is responsible for 36% of all deaths. Last year, In Hall County, 700+ walkers contributed over $92,000 at the Heart Walk. Research funded by the American Heart Association has yielded or contributed to many important discoveries such as CPR, life-extending drugs (including clot-busters), pacemakers, bypass surgery, the heart-lung machine and surgical techniques to repair heart defects. These and other advances are making it possible for many to call themselves “survivors.”
