Higher Education Offers Advancement
In a region noted for progress, Gainesville-Hall County is served directly by three outstanding institutions of higher learning and is within an hour's drive of many others.

Brenau University, a private four-year institution, is located in downtown Gainesville and offers a bachelor's through a master's degree. Brenau attracts students from Georgia and around the nation and the world.

Brenau University Brenau University, founded in 1878, is a quality driven, student-centered private university consisting of the Women’s College, the Evening and Weekend College, the Online College and the Academy for High School Students.


Gainesville State College is a two-year college in the University System of Georgia and provides an educational and career beginning for thousands of Greater Hall County students each year. There are also some three and four-year degrees offered on site. Located in Oakwood, Gainesville State College is ideally suited for high school graduates and adults who are starting or returning to college to prepare for associate degrees or to go on to four-year institutions.

Gainesville State College Gainesville State College delivers degree and certificate programs to more than 3,000 students.

Lanier Technical College offers 41 diploma programs designed to teach or improve specific skills necessary for employment. Many adults receive assistance in achieving their high school diplomas through the Adult Literacy and GED programs.

Lanier Technical College offers two-year occupational and technical degrees to more than 3,000 students on four campuses. The main campus in Gainesville-Hall County is in Oakwood and is the host institute for Georgia’s Center of Innovation for Manufacturing Excellence and the Quick Start Training program. Lanier Technical College also certifies eligible business and training expenses for Georgia’s retraining tax credit program equaling free or reduced cost training.
