Chamber Initiatives
Quality Education Strategy Team (QuEST) gives Hall County
high school students and teachers a firsthand look at the local work
place. Through QuEST's Greater Hall Youth Apprenticeship, students
participate in structured school and work-based learning, leading
to a diploma, post-secondary credentials and, more importantly a certificate
of occupational skills. They get experience on the job, and an appreciation
for working in Hall County.
Students get the training they need, and local businesses reap the
rewards of a qualified staff pool. More than 400 high school students
have been placed in apprentice positions in local industries since
the program began in 1995.
Student and Teacher Internships, QuEST provides a chance to reinforce classroom instruction and build better understanding of workplace requirements. QuEST is increasing the numbers of qualified workers right here in our own backyard.
Career Speakers from the Greater Hall County business community, visit and speak in schools to help students explore career options right in the classroom.
Job Shadowing allows a student or teacher to spend a day on
the job gaining firsthand knowledge of career options and workplace
requirements.
This collaborative, coordinated by the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, serves the Gainesville City School System, the Hall County School System and private schools. It directly impacts the development of a qualified workforce in Greater Hall County by:
- Increasing career awareness
-
Increasing students' understanding of the free enterprise system
-
Providing firsthand experience with models of success
-
Providing on-the-job opportunities.
The result is students who are better qualified to enter the workplace. Every school in Hall County benefits from the 350 plus Gainesville-Hall County businesses who are Partners in Education.
